Workshops
Concept projects for the preservation and development of Georgian Public Broadcaster's building
From March 28 to 31, the National Trust of Georgia hosted a workshop for architecture students on the topic: “Preservation and Development of the Historic Building of the Georgian Public Broadcaster.” The workshop was led by architects Levan Kalandarishvili, Ana Gulisashvili, and Giorgi Kiguradze, who shared their professional expertise in architecture, urban planning, and architectural history. With their guidance, students developed proposals for the preservation of the historic television center and the adaptation of its surrounding area to meet public needs. The workshop was part of a broader campaign led by the National Trust of Georgia, aimed at safeguarding and rethinking the future of the Public Broadcaster’s historic building. The student projects will be showcased at a concluding exhibition dedicated to the campaign. The historic television center is an integral part of Tbilisi’s identity and cultural-social memory. Built in the 1960s, it was designed by architect Archil Kurdiani and occupies a prominent position within the urban fabric surrounding Heroes Square. In 2022, the property was sold at auction. According to publicly obtained information from the National Trust of Georgia, the state does not require the new owner—Kostava Towers LLC—to preserve the building or maintain its public function.
