Protecting historic building of the first Georgian television

"Open stream" is a experimental broadcasting space in front of the Georgian Public Broadcaster to spotlight and amplify voice of the people of Georgia. This is a result of recent political disturbance caused, because of pausing association process of Georgia in European Union. It cause continuous protest days from 28th of November on Rustaveli Avenue. During this time Public Broadcaster misspelled or hid necessary information to engage population of whole Georgia in protests, for whom this channel can be one of very few free televisions. After harsh discussion between initiative group, who required extended and open digital space for the protest participants and board of the broadcaster, this agreement was achieved. Everything has changed after new year's celebration, TV for usual people was closed and only politicians or rewarded experts were invited. This action caused people to stand still in front of the historic building of the Public Broadcaster and continue its request to open political talk shows for people. Rejections from the board, pushed initiative group to organize "Open Stream" were protest took place.

From the 8th of January every day is dedicated to different problem, caused by authoritarian regime, one of which is management of the state property in the interest of elitist political groups and big businesses. Individuals and organizations working in the cultural heritage sphere, assume that selling the historic territory of the first television of Georgia is one of the corruptive deals.

"Open Stream" held on the11th of January was dedicated to the discussion about safeguarding the first building for the first Georgian television, it's architectural value and influence on society.

The launch of the campaign "Stream to the people, building to the city" was announced by the manager of the National Trust of Georgia, Salome Tabatadze.

Meeting was moderated by architect Natalia Nebieridze.

Nano Zazanashvili spoke about the management of the public resources and the tendencies of eliminating public spaces in city center, also about dangers caused by selling the state property to the private housing development business.

Tatia Ghvineria touched the topic of architectural history of the building and it's importance to the urban fabric. Impact on people to protect and reuse public buildings for their needs.

Salome Tabatadze announced campaign to safeguard the building, raise awareness about modernistic buildings of Tbilisi, which is organized by The National trust of Georgia, Heritage Platform and other organizations or individuals who work in the cultural heritage sphere.
